Welcome back to "A Clan A Day Podcast." I'm your host, Colin MacDonald, and today we’re venturing into the history of Clan Carruthers, a distinguished Lowland Scottish family with deep roots in the turbulent history of the Scottish Borders.
Other than the origins of Ruther being Norman, thats great and thank you fir doing this.
Rydderch (Ruther in old cumbric a Brythonic dialect) was built on Birrens hill in and around 200AD during the time of the roman occupation. It is this fort and the area around it that gave the name to the parish of Carruthers and of course as the owners of the land, to our family took its name from there. We have investigated at length the possibility of a Norman connection but cant find one. Our DNA research has shown that our snp from our chiefly line arrived in Scotland in around 500BC.
